The University of Fort Hare's Fairmade Gelatine team that participated in the National Innovative Competition has made history by taking a top 10 spot. The hard working team competed against 63 teams from 21 South African universities as announced on 5th August 2010 at the Mosses Mabhida stadium in Durban.

Fort Hare University has released its woman springbok, Nolusindiso Booi into National duties as she has won the selector's hearts for the upcoming women's rugby world cup in England from August 20 to September 5th..In the past two years, the university has produced quite a number of Springboks amongst them, Ziniko Dumaphi who is part of USSA Sevens, Sokhana Mkona in USSA Team (Fifteens) and Carlos Qondani who participated in the Rugby Sevens Tournament in Morocco.
Emanating from the university's strategic plan towards centenary, "harnessing technology effectively". The University of Fort Hare officially opened a 192 seater laptop lab in its East London Campus to reduce the number of "student per computer" to twenty, a remarkable move from 200.
The old storeroom, turned into state of the art computer laboratory was unveiled by the Vice Chancellor, Dr Tom at the Gasson Center with students to witness and representatives from Dimension Data and First Technology.
The University of Fort Hare was on 29th July home to more than 5000 learners during the launch of the National Science week with the Deputy Minister Derrick Hanekom ,Minister of Science and Technology , Naledi Pandor and the MEC for Education Mahlubandile Qwase attending.

The University of Fort Hare and the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) strengthened links when a fifth specialist volunteer, specializing in farm-related bookkeeping and finances, Ray Williams, arrived recently to bring capacity to the agricultural based cooperatives at Fort Hare.
Two University of Fort Hare residences on the Alice campus, Elitheni and Elukhanyisweni, have become involved in community work as part of their responsibilities to enhance broader university community engagement as one of the pillars of higher learning institutions.
The warden of Elitheni, Ms Nonzukiso Tyilo, took her students away from their books to Bongolwethu Pre-School in the nearby Njwaxa location to hand out toys and library books for the 32 children under that roof.
The University of Fort Hare held its 87th graduation ceremony from the 5th to the 8th May in both East London and its heritage campus in Alice. A total of 34 PhD's were awarded; amongst them, 72 year old Gillian Vernon, former Director of the East London Museum, received a Doctor of Literature and Philosophy.
